On Mar 4, 2016, a terrible incident happened in Bali strait. An Indoneaia ferry, Rafelia II, sailing from Gilimanuk Portin Bali to
Ketapang Port, in Banyuwangi, East Java, sank.
The ferry had left
the port of Gilimanuk in Bali at 12:50 a.m. LT and sank 15 minutes later in the
Bali Strait, which connects Bali with Java. The ferry suddenly tilted. It made passengers panicked and some of them jumpped into the
water off the boat. Less than a minute the ferry flipped and submerged.
The Indonesian
National Armed Forces (TNI AL) deployed two patrol boats to conduct search and
rescue work. Several of the passengers had already been rescued by fishing
boats when the rescue team arrived. They also deployed a helicopter to help
with the operation. The 32 vehicles on board went down with the ship. The
ship's manifest listed 51 people on board including 14 crew members. 10 people
were missing based on the manifest

Once upon a time, there lived a famous sculpture in
Tapanuli, North Sumatra. His name was Datu Panggana. He could carve wood into
many things.
One
day, he got an inspiration to carve a wood into a statue of a beautiful woman.
Then, he put the statue in front of his house. It was not finished yet. The
statue still had any clothes yet. Later, a young merchant passed by in front of
the Delta Panggana's house. His name was Bao Partigatiga. He sold jewelries and
clothes. He was very impressed by the beauty of the statue."She would be
more beautiful by wearing my clothes," said Bao Partigatiga. He then put on
the clothes he wanted to sell on the statue. Bao Partigatiga was very pleased
now. The statue looked like a real human. Then he left Datu Panggana's house.
After that, a priest and his wife passed by. They were also impressed by the
beauty of the statue."I want to pray to God to make her live like a real
human. I want to make her as our daughter," said the priest to his
wife.The couple had any children yet. Their dream came true. The statue had
changed into a very beautiful girl. The priest and his wife then took the girl
home. They named her Nai Manggale.
The
news about Nai Manggale spread very fast. All the villagers came to the
priest's house to see Nai Manggale. Among them were Datu Panggana and Bao Partigatiga.Datu
Panggana said, "She has to stay in my house. The statue was
mine."But, Bao Partigatiga also claimed the same thing."She is
wearing my clothes. So, she has to stay in my house."The priest did not
want to deprive Nai Manggale."Remember, I am the one who made her live
like a human. So, she stays here."Those three men then were busy arguing.
They claimed to have the rights of Nai Manggale.
To calm them, an elderly of the village gave a
solution. His name was Aji Bahir."You all can have her and have a
relationship with her. Datu Panggana, you are her uncle. Bao Partigatiga, you
are her brother. And you the priest, you are her father."The three men
accepted Aji Bahir's advice. And now they were happy because they all could ask
her to stay in their houses. Besides that, now those three men were related.

In the afternoon as my plane from
Jakarta touched down in Bangkok, I had noticed quite a lot fog. The information
Counter assured me it wouldn’t delay flight.
After a six-hour tour of the city
while waiting to catch another plane to Hongkong,I arrived at Suvarnabhumi
airport shortly before 10 Pm and found chaos. The place was crowded with
passenger whose flights had been delayed. Mine was delayed too and I was
directed to a crowded first class lounge to wait. An hour and a half later, we
were all comfortably on board when the captain announced that there were still
thirteen aircrafts waiting to take off and ours was the seventh in line. Half
an hour after our rescheduled flight, it was announced that six of aircrafts
had departed but the rest could only leave the following morning. We were all
disappointed but all we could do was just waiting .
The airport hotel was already full,
but to our relief, our captain announced that any passenger who would like to
could stay on the airplane for the night and a meal would be served. The
air-conditioning and other facilities were kept working all night. At 7 AM, it
was announced that we would be served breakfast in the Bangkok airport
restaurant. I went to the restaurant and saw a tremendously long queue.
I decided to return to the aircraft
to wait of it to take off. The wait was not long as we were on the first
aircraft to depart that morning. We had a wonderful flight, and landed at
Hongkong airport ahead of the new scheduled time at 7.20

commemorated as Kartini Day in Indonesia to remind Indonesian women about the
great struggle of R.A. Kartini for the emancipation of women in Indonesia.
R.A.Kartini, who was born on 21 April 1879, was a prominent Javanese and an
Indonesian national heroine. She was a pioneer of women’s right for
Indonesians. Born as the fifth child into an aristocratic Javanese family,
Kartini was allowed to attend school until she was 12 years old. Her father,
the Regent of Jepara, who was broad-minded
and a lenient man, sent Kartini to a Dutch Elementary School. Here, Kartini
learnt to speak Dutch, an unusual accomplishment for Javanese women at the
time. When she turned to 12 years old, she was secluded at home, a common
practice among Javanese mobility to prepare young girls for their marriage.
During her seclusion, Kartini’s father
gave her privileges such as teaching embroidery lessons, gathering the girls
from the neighbourhood and teaching them to read and to write and other useful
skills. Kartini continued to educate herself on her own. Because she could
speak Dutch, she acquired several Dutch pen friends. One of them was Rosa
Abendanon, whom Kartini often sent letters to. In her letter, she was very
concerned not only in the area of the emancipation of women, but also other
problems of her society. Kartini saw the struggle for women to obtain their
freedom, autonomy and legal equality was just part of a wider movement.
Kartini’s parents arranged her marriage
to Joyodiningrat, The Regent of Rembang. She was married on 12 November 1903.
Fortunately, her husband understood Kartini’s aims and allowed her to establish
a school for women in the east porch of the Rembang Regency Office complex. On
13 September 1904, Kartini’s only son was born. A few days he later on 17
September 1904, Kartini died at the age of 25. She was buried in Bulu Village,
Rembang.
Kartini’s ideas and ideals are expressed
in her letters, which have been edited under the title of Through Darkness into
Light.

The Diponegoro War
The
Diponegoro War took place in Java from 1825 until 1830. It was led by Prince
Diponegoro of Yogyakarta. The proximate cause was the Dutch’s arrogant decision
to build a road across a piece of Prince Diponegoro property that contained his
parents’ tombs.
At the beginning of the war, the
troops of Prince Diponegoro were very successful in controlling Central Java
and besieging Yogyakarta. However, as the war prolonged, Prince Diponegoro had
difficulties in maintaining the number of his troops. On the other hand, the
Dutch colonial army was able to fill its ranks with troops from Sulawesi and
later on from the Netherland. The Dutch commander, General de Kock, was able to
end the siege of Yogyakarta on 25 September 1825.
Prince Diponegoro started a
fierce guerrilla war and it was not until 1827 that the Dutch army gainedthe
upper hand. Approximately 200.000 people died over the course of the conflict,
of which 8.000 were the Dutch troops.
The war finally ended in 1830,
after Prince Diponegoro was tricked into entering the Dutch fortress near
Magelang. The Prince believed that he was invited there for negotiations for a
possiblecease-fire. He was captured through treachery and deported to Menado
and then to Makassar, where he died in 1855.

the Morning Glory came to the tree and climbed it to the peak of the tree and
found the nest. The baby bird saw it and was very happy to see its beauty. From
